Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System — Newsletter 12/04/2012
This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

Somalia: Horn of Africa Drought: Country-based Pooled Fund Activity (as of 3 Apr 2012) Wed, 11 Apr 2012 14:39:08 +0000 An emergency of drought and food-security in the Horn of Africa made international headlines in July 2011 when famine was declared in parts of Somalia. By that time OCHA-operated country-based pooled funds in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia had already provided US$69 million for humanitarian response to address the crisis. The three funds allocated over $143 million to the emergency in 2011 and an additional $11 million as of 15 March 2012, bringing the total to $154 million.
