This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

Hundreds of indigenous and Afro-Colombian people flee fighting and face access constraints in Choco department: The life, well-being and territorial rights of ethnic groups in the department is hampered by the rise of hostilities along the Baudo, San Juan and Andagueda rivers Civilians caught in the middle of hostilities displace in Cauca and Valle del Cauca ? Hostilities left civilian casualties in the Pacific and in Northern Cauca department: In Valle del Cauca, civilians are at risk due to clashes, Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and landslides. ? Children, adolescents and youth at high risk in urban and rural areas: Non-State and post-demobilization armed groups continue the involvement of children, adolescents and youth in armed conflict ? Second rainy season: Official number of victims reaches 830.000: During the reporting period, approximately 200.000 persons were affected by heavy rains in central Colombia and in the Pacific and Caribbean regions. |
Colombia: Informe de situacion N?2: Desplazamiento en Timbiqui (Cauca) - 20 de diciembre de 2011 Tue, 20 Dec 2011 20:35:33 +0000 Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Country: Colombia I. PRIORIDADES/PUNTOS DESTACADOS ? 347 personas (mas de 180 menores de edad) que se desplazaron de Playa Cuerval (zona rural de Timbiqui), permanecen albergados en la cabecera municipal de Guapi. II. SITUACI?N GENERAL Debido a enfrentamientos entre las FARC y un grupo armado post-desmovilizacion (Los Rastrojos) en territorio del Consejo Comunitario de Comunidades Negras de Cuerval (Timbiqui), desde el 8 de diciembre 347 personas (82 familias) habitantes de la comunidad Playa Cuerval, se vieron obligadas a desplazarse hacia el casco urbano de Guapi (Cauca). Las familias permanecen albergadas en las instalaciones del coliseo municipal. Segun informacion de organizaciones humanitarias, otras 3 familias (5 menores, 4 adultos) se desplazaron a la cabecera municipal de Timbiqui. El Comite Municipal de Atencion Integral a Poblacion Desplazada (CMAIPD) se reunio el 12 de diciembre y emitio la declaratoria de desplazamiento masivo, en reunion del 16 de diciembre se analizo la posibilidad de retorno de algunas familias durante la presente semana. It was issued by OCHA Philippines. It covers the period from 19 to 20 December 2011. The next report will be issued on or around 22 December. I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES ? The number of dead and missing is now 1,009, according to the Government ? 284,610 people have been displaced, with 42,733 people taking shelter in 63 evacuation centers and another 241,877 people staying with relatives or in makeshift structures ? The priority needs identified by the joint rapid needs assessment undertaken by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Philippine Humanitarian Country Team are water, sanitation and hygiene, temporary shelter and food ? The Government of the Philippines has accepted the offer from the acting United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for international humanitarian assistance ? The Emergency Revision of the Philippines (Mindanao) Humanitarian Action Plan 2012 (or the ?Flash Appeal?) will be launched on 22 December in Manila |
