This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

Monsoon 2011 - Situation Report No. 9, 20 October 2011 Thu, 20 Oct 2011 21:09:43 +0000 Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Country: Pakistan I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES ? The ongoing joint UN-Government Detailed Needs Assessment is expected to be completed shortly. ? 22 % of the assessed funding requirements have been received so far (79 million of 357 million US$ requested in the Rapid Response Plan launched on 18 September 2011). In the absence of additional funding, it is estimated that most stocks will be depleted by the end of October. ? So far, approximately 1 million persons were provided with food, while 500?000 persons received essential medicines. The provision of emergency shelter and water has reached 25% of the targeted population. ? Needs are increasing with the onset of winter, the outbreak of water and vector borne diseases, as well as the upcoming Rabi planting season. |
Sudan Weekly Humanitarian Bulletin 7-13 October 2011 Thu, 20 Oct 2011 14:51:21 +0000 Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Country: Sudan (the), Ethiopia, South Sudan (Republic of) Key Points ? UNHCR reports that an estimated 28,500 Sudanese refugees from Blue Nile State have entered Ethiopia. ? Sudan?s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) reports that some 35,000 people remain displaced in various locations of South Kordofan State. This does not include SPLM-N areas. ? An attack on UNAMID in North Darfur leaves three peacekeepers dead and six more injured. ? The country director of an international NGO, Fellowship for African Relief (FAR) has been expelled from Sudan by the Government. No official reason has been given for the expulsion. |
