Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System — Newsletter 10/12/2011
This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

Somalia Famine & Drought Situation Report No. 17 Wed, 12 Oct 2011 00:43:01 +0000 Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Country: Somalia I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES ? Increased insecurity threatens the delivery of humanitarian assistance. On 10 October, fighting broke out between the Al Shabaab and the TFG/AMISOM forces in Mogadishu. ? Preliminary data indicates that food assistance partners have reached about 2.2 million people in crisis to date, representing over half of the food insecure population. ? The measles immunization campaign has reached more than one million children since July, representing nearly half of the target population. |

Overview of Flood Waters over Central Provinces, Thailand UNOSAT 11 Oct 2011 12:54:41 PM This map presents the standing flood waters over the affected Central Provinces of Thailand based on analysis of satellite data recorded 9-10 October 2011. A preliminary analysis indicates extensive flood waters in spatial extent in and around Nakhon Sawan province.Not all flood waters have been identified because of limits in the spatial resolution of the imagery used and due to heavy cloud cover over the assessed area.This analysis has not yet been validated in the field.
