Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System — Newsletter 9/9/2011

This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

? The total estimated population in need of assistance across the four countries has increased from 12.4 to 13.3 million.

? Famine has spread to Bay region in Somalia. 750,000 people are at risk of death in the next four months if relief operations are not scaled up.

? Weather forecasts predict normal rains from September to December in most of the region.

? Conflict in the Blue Nile State of Sudan has resulted in the influx of 20,000 additional Sudanese refugees into Ethiopia.

I. PRIORIDADES/PUNTOS DESTACADOS

? Durante el mes de agosto, las lluvias afectaron a 15.735 personas y causaron 6 muertos.

? Estan listas 100 de las 6.714 obras de Colombia Humanitaria programadas para mitigar los efectos de la nueva temporada invernal.

? Colombia Humanitaria advierte que va a entrar directamente a ejecutar obras para adelantarlas.

? La Federacion Colombiana de Municipios anuncio que recursos de Colombia Humanitaria no estan llegando oportunamente a los municipios, reportan que 94 municipios no han recibido ningun recurso todavia.

? El 2 de septiembre se convoco une reunion extraordinaria del Comite Operativo Nacional de Prevencion y Atencion de Desastres, para implementar el Plan de Contingencia ante la segunda temporada invernal.
