Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System — Newsletter 8/4/2011

This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

Les services meteo avaient d?ailleurs maintenu leurs previsions initiales selon lesquelles, les niveaux de precipitation saisonnieres seraient normales a excedentaire de juillet a septembre.

This report is produced by OCHA in collaboration with the Humanitarian Country Team and humanitarian partners. It was issued by OCHA Yemen country office. It covers the period from 22 July 2011 to 2 August 2011. The next report will be issued on or around 10 August 2011.

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

? In Abyan Governorate, conflict is ongoing whereby civilians are being killed and displacement continues, including some 826 newly displaced people to the neighbouring Shabwa Governorate.

? Limited access continues to prevent gathering of sufficient data on the specific needs of the conflict-affected populations.

? In Arhab District, Sana'a Governorate, heavy shelling and air strikes earlier in July resulted in an estimated 9,500 new IDPs as people were fleeing their homes in search of safety.

? In Northern Yemen, the issue of child soldiers continues to cause concern as children are being recruited by Al-Houthis to engage in conflict with opposing tribal groups such as Al-Islah militants.

Epidemie de cholera

  • La situation de l?epidemie de cholera au 31 juillet 2011 indique un total de 2 867 cas dont 192 deces pour les Provinces de Bandundu, de l?Equateur et la Ville de Kinshasa. La Province de Bandundu totalise 1 464 cas dont 86 deces alors que la Province de l?Equateur compte 1 216 avec 89 deces. La ville de Kinshasa a enregistre 187 cas et 17 deces. Des cas ont deja ete recenses dans au moins 15 communes de la ville. La Province Orientale comptabilise 1 438 cas dont 102 deces.

National

  • L?Organisation des Nations Unies pour l?alimentation et l?agriculture (FAO) vient de former 1 275 demobilises et membres des communautes d?accueil dans les volets maraicher, peche, elevage et transformation du manioc dans les Provinces de Bandundu, Katanga, Kinshasa, Maniema, Province Orientale et Sud-Kivu. En outre, la FAO va assurer jusqu?a la fin du mois d?aout la formation en organisation et structuration de 52 associations dans toutes ces Provinces ainsi que le Nord-Kivu et l?Equateur.
