This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

The regional reports will be consolidated into one document and released in the form of the Humanitarian Requirements Document (HRD) covering the January-June 2012 period. Chile: CHILE - Torres del Paine, Fire as of January 01, 2012 - Situation Map Tue, 03 Jan 2012 23:13:33 +0000 Since December 27, 2011 , a massive forest fire raged through the Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, Chile and has destroyed an area of about 125 sq km. Hundreds of military personnel and fire fighters were deployed at the scene to fight the blaze and managed to bring the fire under control on January 2, 2012.
