Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System — Newsletter 11/29/2011
This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

| Ethiopia: Humanitarian Bulletin - Weekly Humanitarian Highlights in Ethiopia, 28 November 2011 Mon, 28 Nov 2011 14:03:45 +0000 Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Country: Ethiopia, Sudan (the) Meher Seasonal Assessment The Government-led, multi-sectoral seasonal assessment kicked off on 21 November 2011, with twenty two teams deployed throughout the country for 20 days. Hotspot woredas in six zones of Tigray, ten zones of Amhara, 13 zones of Oromia, twelve zones of SNNP, five zones of Afar, nine zones of Somali and all zones of Benishangul Gumuz and Gambella regions will be covered by the assessment. The teams will collect and analyse data at the regional level, and the compiled assessment results will be presented in the 2012 Humanitarian Requirements Document (HRD), which the Government has committed to release by late January 2012. | Somalia: Population Movement Tracking Monthly Report - October 2011 Mon, 28 Nov 2011 15:37:43 +0000 Since the peak of 63,000 in July, 2011 and further steady decline in the displacement trends in August and September, the month of October recorded an increase in the displacements. Forty one thousand (41,000) displacements were recorded in October, mainly due to insecurity as opposed to 35,000 displacements in September. Insecurity due to ongoing fighting between various warring parties, accounted for 74% of the total displacements reported, mainly in Mogadishu, Afgooye district and border region of Juba Hoose. In Mogadishu, 22,000 insecurity-related displacements were recorded due to fighting between AMISOM/TFG and Al Shabaab, mainly in Dayniile (7,800 displacements) and Yaqshid (2,700 displacements) districts. Of the 22,000 insecurity-related displacements, 13,700 were displaced within Mogadishu, while 8,100 were displaced from Afgooye district.
