Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System — Newsletter 10/9/2011
This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

Earthquake Update - Situation Report No. 5 Sat, 08 Oct 2011 16:44:06 +0000 Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Country: Nepal I. Situation Overview An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale affected 15 eastern districts of Nepal, as well as the capital of Kathmandu in the Central Region, at around 6:25 pm Nepal time on 18 September 2011. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) continues to coordinate the response to the earthquake. Latest figures released on 26 September by the NEOC, indicate that the number of fatalities remains at 6 persons, 27 people are severely injured and 132 persons have minor injuries. 3344 families are reportedly displaced (the exact number of individuals displaced is yet to be finalised as some districts are only reporting number of families). 3917 houses/buildings are completely destroyed and 5966 partially damaged. |
