Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System — Newsletter 8/28/2011
This daily newsletter provides an overview of the natural disasters that happened in the last 24 hours and response measures for ongoing disasters. GDACS currently covers earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions and floods. The color coding (red, orange, green) is related to the estimated humanitarian impact of the event.

In addition, 112 thousand people are living in coastal areas below 5m and can therefore be affected by storm surge. |

Forecast for the coming week indicates a similar pattern; Besides the flood affected areas of Sindh emergency situations can occur in the following regions:
River Sutlej: 84,000 cusecs flow has been recorded (highest in the last 15 years) and besides Kasur it poses threat to downstream districts of Pakpattan and Bahawalnagar. River Swat in KP is also in Low Floods; |
